Sadly...
I am out of shortening....
and I love shortening...
at least in pie crusts.

Thinking that I did not want to spend $7 on a large container of Crisco....I decided to try to make a pie crust out of butter instead....
Now....if you are like me...you save your CLEAN but previously used foil....for some reason this irritates my husband......my handsome husband likes to refer to my foil collection as my "inherited foil collection that has been passed down from many generations"....
But look.....if you just roll it out ...it's like new again....
honestly, I don't understand why he complains....after all I AM SAVING HIM MONEY!
Does he not understand that by me reusing foil we can spend his hard earned money on other things like....I don't know...hmm let me think...travel......
re using foil over and over again = historic Scottish monument....it's a no brainer if you ask me.

Sounds like the pie crust needed some extra salt. Next time try adding a dash or more of cinnamon to the flour before mixing in the butter. I myself use lard instead of shortening and it makes a real nice flaky crust.
ReplyDeleteKudos for saving the foil and using beans for pie weights.
