Apple Chips....

My self imposed food challenge is not going so well...
Basically, I think the natives are getting restless and need junk food.
The handsome husband freaked out last night when he opened all the cupboards and couldn't find any junk food.... He even asked the girl who think she's a bird if she still had any of her birthday Doritos's left. How sad is that?

The monkeys even talked me into playing cards with them the other day...
They were willing to gamble some of their own candy stash...just to get a few pieces of mine. Monkey boy came away the winner that time.

So to ward off a giant junk food purchasing rebellion by the handsome husband... today I spent $14 on junk food and $27 on a case (40lbs) of Fuji apples.
We love apple chips.....
If you have never made apple chips (dehydrated apples) before I highly recommend it.
It's so easy....even I can do it.
And I think they taste better than junk food...
Peel, quarter and core your apples... I used 4 big ones.
Slice...

Soak in lemon water (1/2cup lemon juice 3 cups H2O)....
Place on dehydrator trays...
Turn on dehydrator (135 degrees) for about 6 hours
When the "chips" are a little crunchy....they are done.
You could store them in a plastic zip baggie but they seem to disappear too quickly for that around here.

  1. What a great idea! Unfortunately a dehydrator is something I don't have...maybe it will go on my "wish list"...better that than an ice cream maker...right?

I always get a chuckle when I visit here...thanks for that!

    Blessings,

  2. I would put both a dehydrator and a handcrank ice cream maker on your wish list....they both come in very handy :)

  3. Another thing for your Christmas lists are the corer/peeler/slicer contraptions for apples and potatoes. Then, you can go big time with those apples:-).

  4. Last years list did include both a mandoline slicer and the apple peeler corer slicer....we tried them out and were disappointed in both of them :(

I LOVE comments BUT if you know who we are...due to the fact that we are currently enrolled in the international witness relocation program because of a moon shining incident in Dingle, Ireland involving 3 Mutton, a pair of red shoes and a road flare .... please do not reveal our personal information.... You know.... like names, places, or our favorite brand of toilet paper :) Hey, thanks!
