Blackberry Pie....from scratch....

Brrr......
I went out to give the chickens some leftover hubbard squash puree
and their water was iced over...
It was 38 degrees outside this morning....
It's much warmer inside obviously...
but still a perfect morning to make a homemade pie
for tonight's dessert...
Blackberry Pie...
Not only is it yummy in my tummy but...
a great way to warm up the kitchen as well...
First of all...
start with your own homemade pie crust...
you could use one of the perfectly round ones from the grocery...
but it just doesn't taste the same...
There's no love in it...
no super thick and flaky parts...
no pretty little cut out (boy this lady has nothing better to do with her time)
shapes all over the top crust....no room for creativity...
Then of course you will need about 1 1/2lbs of frozen blackberries that you foraged this summer... you know the ones you stashed in your freezer for a chilly day just like this...
add 1/2 cup of flour, 1 cup of sugar, 2 tablespoons of butter
and mix together.... and pour into you pie crust...
then with a cookie cutter start cutting out your desired shapes...
(I thought it would look cool to do polka dots...
but actually it looks more like egg yolks)...
then mix 1 egg and a little cream together and "paste" your shapes all around the pie crust and then on to each other...
then sprinkle with a little cinnamon sugar...
and bake at 400 degrees for about 50 minutes or so ...
or until the center juices are bubbling and
your crust is a yummy and brown flaky masterpiece....
then let it cool until your very own handsome husband comes home...
then serve it up for dessert with a scoop of homemade vanilla ice cream
and don't forget a slice for yourself as well.....
Goodnight little blackberry pie....
see you tomorrow morning for breakfast....

  4. This looks absolutely wonderful! Our contractor told us he is going to start growing blackberries commercially. And I think I may have found some on our property when we last visited?? I hope this means I, too, will be able to grow blackberries of my own one day!

  5. Green Home> blackberry pie can be very addicting... luckily you can make homemade blackberry jam with all the extras and give away at Christmas time :)

Kathy> I'm just finishing up another slice for breakfast this morning....I Love it!

I LOVE comments BUT if you know who we are...due to the fact that we are currently enrolled in the international witness relocation program because of a moon shining incident in Dingle, Ireland involving 3 Mutton, a pair of red shoes and a road flare .... please do not reveal our personal information.... You know.... like names, places, or our favorite brand of toilet paper :) Hey, thanks!
