Make this! Sausage and Creamed Potatoes....

Yet another recipe from the Mennonite Community Cookbook...
I highly recommend this cookbook...
the directions could not be any easier...
no pictures... but super easy directions.
I'll take that any day over a bunch of glossy photo's and $20 recipes with exotic ingredients I have to go hunt down.
Cast of Characters.... I am in the process of looking up recipes for the 15lbs of leftover sausage from the sausage party... I decided to make this recipe (used 1lb of sausage... 14lbs more to go) ... and let me tell you... I'm so glad I did.
Cut sausage into 1/2" slices...
I think this is chicken sausage with spinach and cheese...
It says to finely chop an onion... but I am no Julia Child... so mine are more like coarsely chopped onions...
With your cute as can be birdie vegetable peeler... that your mother actually bought for your children... peel the potatoes... it doesn't say to peel them... but I did...
It says to quarter your potatoes.... but because mine are homegrown and not exactly uniform in size...
I chopped them into about 1" pieces...
Cook the onion and sausage until lightly browned...
Then cover with water... cook for 10 minutes...
Make a paste with the milk and flour...
Add the potatoes and season... cook til potatoes are tender...
Add milk mixture and let cook until thickened... about 5 minutes...
Holy Crackers this was GOOD!!!!!

You know... I just thought of something.
What a great gift it would be if someone cooked thru an entire cookbook and left a note next to each recipe telling you if the food was great... or tasted like dog biscuits. I think it's a wonderful idea... just not so sure how many people would like a crusty cook book with writing all over it....

  3. Meester: are you implying that I am suppose to cook may way thru the book and leave you with the cliff notes?... nice... get off your beehind and do it yourself... actually wait... maybe I could cook my way thru the Melting Pot cookbook you gave me...that would be fun... By the way... tell my mother that I would like a VERY LARGE gift card to Panera for Christmas.

MamaJJ... I looked up her blog... I think it would be a cool thing to do... only this mmc cookbook has things like rabbits, make your own soap from 1/2 a side of beef and breaded oxtail in it... and don't forget the oysters and the liver. Maybe I could cook my way thru the cookies and dessert sections instead.

Tori... no but I will look...glad to hear you liked your Kanned Kale... it came all the way from Germany you know.

  6. I'm gonna make this for lunch at church tomorrow.
My niece told me she wants my cookbooks because I do write in them. Guess she wants to skip the not so good recipes huh.
A sausage party, never heard of such, give the details.

  7. I will have to try this as soon as rifle deer season hits in a couple weeks. We'll have sausage like crazy. One recipe we find is great for eating up sausage is Sausage with kraut apples and onions. I take homemade fermented kraut, an apple or two are a little past their prime in our fridge, any kind of onion you like. Peel and core the apple, quarter and then slice thinly. Slice the onion nice and thin too. Saute both in the pan while you're browning the sausages (maybe in butter or lard if you have it). Add kraut, add some water (usually just a 1/4 in the pan, maybe a little more) and simmer until sausages are cooked through. Hubby also likes if I throw in some crushed red pepper flake during the simmer. Super thrifty and delicious.

I LOVE comments BUT if you know who we are...due to the fact that we are currently enrolled in the international witness relocation program because of a moon shining incident in Dingle, Ireland involving 3 Mutton, a pair of red shoes and a road flare .... please do not reveal our personal information.... You know.... like names, places, or our favorite brand of toilet paper :) Hey, thanks!
