How To Make Carmel Apples.... For Breakfast....

"What's for breakfast Mom?"

"How about Carmel apples?"

"Really?"

"Yep"

"Cool".....

Mavis says...."when you are tired of making pancakes, scones, muffins, waffles, cold cereal and crepes...hey...why not make carmel apples for breakfast.... because..... all the cool kids are doing it."
Line a cookie sheet with wax paper... or you could just butter it.... I'll leave that one up to you.
Place popsicle sticks into your favorite washed/stemmed apples
If you are not going to go into anaphylatic shock from peanuts.... then chop 1 cup full and set aside for later use...you could also use m & m's...those might be fun too.
Melt 1 cup of butter in a large (3qt) saucepan over low heat...
Then add 2 1/4 cups of brown sugar, 2 cups light cream ( I used half and half) and 1 cup of light corn syrup and mix well. Cook and stir over med-high heat until the mixture come to a boil.

Clip the candy thermometer to the side of the pan...
Reduce heat to medium and continue to boil until the thermometer reads 248-250 degrees...
Remove from heat , remove the candy thermometer
and add 1 teaspoon of vanilla and stir....
One at a time dip each apple into the hot carmel...
I highly recommend doing this in your pajama's....
It makes it feel a more exciting.... like an uprising of some sorts against traditional breakfast fare.....
If you like peanuts....roll the bottom in peanuts...
I LOVE PEANUTS.......
Oh hey, this recipe allows enough carmel for 12 apples.....but we only made 6... and we used the leftover carmel for peanut clusters....Yumm a licious! ...I should open a candy store...okay not really...cause I would eat all the candy.... but maybe I will make some of these for Christmas.
In your dumb...not wide enough for platters high maintenance suburbia refrigerator....place your carmel goodies in the fridge to harden.
Then take them out.....and eat them...
and ask yourself....
why didn't I think of this sooner?
There you have it...
Carmel apples...
the best breakfast on the planet...
You get your serving of fruit, nuts, and milk (cream)
A very well balanced way to start the day if you ask me.

  1. Thank you for the great idea. I'm sure my teenager/young adult kids will love that. It has an apple in it, so it must be healthy. We are going to try it.

I LOVE comments BUT if you know who we are...due to the fact that we are currently enrolled in the international witness relocation program because of a moon shining incident in Dingle, Ireland involving 3 Mutton, a pair of red shoes and a road flare .... please do not reveal our personal information.... You know.... like names, places, or our favorite brand of toilet paper :) Hey, thanks!
